How fake crypto platforms work

  • You are introduced to a platform through a romance, social media, or investment group
  • A small initial investment appears to generate impressive returns on their dashboard
  • You are encouraged to invest more — often your savings
  • When you try to withdraw, you are told to pay a "tax" or "fee" first
  • After paying, further fees are demanded or the platform disappears

Warning signs

  • Platform is not registered with the Central Bank of Ireland
  • Returns are suspiciously high and consistent
  • Withdrawal is always blocked by new fees
  • Platform was introduced by a romantic interest online
  • Celebrity endorsement (almost always fabricated)
