Warning signs of a hacked phone

  • Battery drains significantly faster than usual
  • Phone feels warm even when not in use
  • Unexplained data usage spikes
  • Apps you did not install have appeared
  • Phone is slow or crashes frequently
  • Contacts report receiving messages you did not send
  • Your accounts show logins from unfamiliar locations

What to do if you suspect hacking

  • Change passwords for all important accounts from a different device
  • Enable 2FA on email and banking accounts
  • Check your installed apps and remove anything unfamiliar
  • Run a security scan (Malwarebytes for Android, use Avira for iPhone)
  • If in doubt, perform a factory reset — back up important data first
  • Contact your mobile carrier if you suspect SIM swapping

Important: not all symptoms mean hacking

Battery drain and slowdowns can also result from software updates, ageing batteries, or background apps. Rule out normal causes before assuming hacking.
