- Apps you did not install have appeared
- Phone is slow or crashes frequently
- Contacts report receiving messages you did not send
- Your accounts show logins from unfamiliar locations
What to do if you suspect hacking
- Change passwords for all important accounts from a different device
- Enable 2FA on email and banking accounts
- Check your installed apps and remove anything unfamiliar
- Run a security scan (Malwarebytes for Android, use Avira for iPhone)
- If in doubt, perform a factory reset — back up important data first
- Contact your mobile carrier if you suspect SIM swapping
Important: not all symptoms mean hacking
Battery drain and slowdowns can also result from software updates, ageing batteries, or background apps. Rule out normal causes before assuming hacking.
